And that was w/ the weaponry of the 1860s. 'But I need to protect my family from <whatever>' - then vote, protest, organize, convince people (& accept that democracy means sometimes you lose). The only thing a civil war is gonna do is get you and your family killed.

Traveling in the east of Ukraine gave me a similar sense of horror; people to whom war is abstract cannot imagine the way it wrecks the world, to say nothing of the lives it ends, damages, or transforms in terrible ways
