And yes, yes, 'change and continuity' - I title the lecture 'Decline and Fall?' with the ? for a reason. But I think I am allowed to be a bit sentimental at the end of a course about the historical polity I poured my life's work into studying.
And I don't suppose I need to go on at any length about my position on 'how bad was/wasn't the fall of Rome in the West?' because the way my patrons are voting, I think that's likely to be on the blog before too long.
Unrelated, but I just finished rewatching the last episode and I'm even more stunned by the beauty of that final act. Wonderful, wonderful work of art.
