Slave revolts are real. Don't pretend slavery doesn't exist--in the 18th century! In the Americas!--and don't pretend it isn't a source of tension. There are no empty places on real maps! There are real people, real nations, in all the spaces of the Americas! Blood Run as a city!

How about playable starts in the grand campaign in Africa, the New World, Asia, etc? Always thought it was bonkers that the Ottomans and Marathas were the only non-European playables in the original grand campaign. Like, not even the Iroquois or the Mughals?

...my reading comprehension is bad because on second reading I see you already basically said this. Still, it is perhaps my biggest gripe with E:TW (tied with the 'slavery is basically not in the game')

The fact that basically every polity of any size is playable is one of the reasons I cut Europa Universalis IV so much slack (although its representation of slavery is also bad). it is such a paradigm shift to put the player on the bayonet-end of imperialism.
