(This isn't to bash on the AHA or UTM's Department of historical studies - it looks like the terminology here is a matter of university policy, so they don't have much say and I can't folks would be thrilled if the AHA started adding 'but not really' after job titles.)
I'm in a similar position in my department, but at least they have the dismissive honesty to call it a lecturer position instead of this obfuscatory garbage.
