"we need to have a conversation about x" has to be the most depressingly useless phrase in modern political discourse
If you will forgive a personal observation...I find it strange that it seems like no one is happy with the direction of our contemporary culture, but the response is always "we need to do what we are doing, just more so" as if speeding up the car will change where the road leads.

Transitions are painful for people who had power in the past culture. Stopping the car and taking another road by bicycle isn't an option for them.

*isn't seen as an option by them It's something they *could* do if they wanted to give up their power for the good of the world. But they don't.

If you are fighting a war and losing, just "fighting harder" isn't likely to get you far. Find allies, negotiate peace terms, or change strategy/tactics all seem far more useful solutions.

To be fair, I think we're seeing the first sprouts of renewal within subcultures. Kpop has every appearance, for example, of being a much nicer place than most subcultures of the past two decades. And I think online subcultures are getting a lot better at cutting off assholes.
