They almost implicitly offer this choice between the cool, effective but also toxic and frankly evil masculinity, but there's never a character outside of it who is ALSO effective and cool. At best you have Breaking Bad's Hank, not figuring out the obvious for season...

I don't think it's unusual for these shows to have *characters* who are positive masculine figures, it's just that they don't play as resonant in the same way because all our actual masculine archetypes are bad
