It might be time to put a look at Greek and Roman conceptions of masculinity on the to-do list. But for what its worth, I think we do, as a society, have a masculinity crisis, but it is almost the exact opposite of the crisis that folks are talking about.
You have politicians pining for the days of Manly Men who were Strong and Did Stuff, who champion an unemotional masculine ideal, but the manly men that did stuff in centuries past also wrote moving poetry, made beautiful art, felt and expressed deep feelings.
