Agreed! I assume some of this comes out of job market pressure - folks are beginning to realize that you need articles on your CV before first round on the market to improve your chances, which creates a pressure for grad students to start that process before they are ready.
I get this. But people who teach in PhD programs then need to carry that load as part of their advising and teaching. It is legitimately their responsibility.
Absolutely agree. My advisor encouraged me, as a matter of habit, to always seek feedback on my projects well before the peer review stage.
