So, a lot of new followers. Welcome! I mostly use this space to nerd out a bunch about ancient history, military history, or both. I also have a blog where I do mostly that thing, but more so: https://acoup.blog/ I also occasionally opine on geopolitics/nat-sec Cheers!

What are good sources for how Philip II, Alexander the Great and the Diadochi ran their armies? I'm trying to read how other imperial systems which had the bureaucratic capability to sustain huge armies did besides Rome and Chinese dynasties.

Start with E. Borza, In the Shadow of Olympus (1990) and D.W. Engels, Alexander the Great and the Logistics of the Macedonian Army (1980). That'll give you a foundation. Then for painstaking detail, NGL Hammond, The Macedonian State (3vols).

TO follow the army forward in time beyond Alexander, learn French and read M. Hatzopoulos, L'organisation de l'armee macedonienne sous les Antigonides (2001). Also useful is P. Connolly, Greece and Rome at War (1981).
