A colossal bummer that I can't think of any way to fix is that apologizing for something can be treated as an assumption of legal responsibility
I can't think of examples where that worked, but I'm sure they exist - but 'never apologize, you can't appease them' seems to be emerging as the common wisdom, which is pretty terrible. Apologies and reconciliation are important, albeit they mostly work poorly on the internet.

Depends on the apology and the apologizer. I mean, on this bird site, there's always someone who will stay mad and keep angryposting, but you can mollify much of the mob. But most apologies tend to the "I'm sorry you got upset" and not "I am sorry of what I did"
