A colossal bummer that I can't think of any way to fix is that apologizing for something can be treated as an assumption of legal responsibility
Apologies also don't seem to calm outrage either. It is frustrating to watch both PR and lawyers converge on a frankly unethical 'never apologize' strategy, but it is also difficult to fault their logic.

I've seen good apologies accepted by outraged groups on here, anyway, but they are infrequent

I can't think of examples where that worked, but I'm sure they exist - but 'never apologize, you can't appease them' seems to be emerging as the common wisdom, which is pretty terrible. Apologies and reconciliation are important, albeit they mostly work poorly on the internet.
