So my university does an 'employee appreciation day' which is seemingly always scheduled for fall break. So, you know, employees can be appreciated, but only when the students aren't on campus and when it won't inconvenience them in any way.

This is very real. Thanks for calling it out. I was shocked, as a recent grad, to discover that part of the reason staff were so eager for undergrads to join and run climate innovation workshops is that when expert staff tried to, they simply wouldn’t be given the resources.

So true. I worked as staff in a Law School’s IT dept. All-employee emails were sent constantly for births, deaths, selling overpriced concert tickets, etc... for *faculty*. In nearly a decade not one baby, not one personal tragedy among staff was acknowledged.
