Roman politics generally must be done in person. Caesar can send messages back to Rome, but it is hard to build a good relationship with the Senate if you aren't there.

So, Caesar's situation is less about him winning glory outside Rome becoming a problem to be stopped, and more about other's trying to keep him off of the levers of power, forcing him to take a gamble?
