I'd hoped you'd write this article since I found ACOUP last year. This matter of motivated 'auxiliaries' has been, as you say, the principal bane and doom of US warfare since 1953. Yet I've never seen it discussed like this vs obvious historical antecedents. One for a book?
Maybe! I have a lot of book projects right now, so it won't be soon. But the topic in general is worth discussing. Might do something with it on the blog in more depth.
