I make 58k as an associate professor, which is why I teach overloads every semester and a summer class and grade AP exams and do some public writing. So yes, 400k seems pretty damn rich.

They did try to recruit me, actually, but I've opted to stick with having a Patreon since it better fits my goal of having my writing as open to the public as possible.
I suppose I should add, because many academics seem not to realize this, but if you write for a major media publication (I've done Foreign Policy, The Atlantic and The National Interest), they pay you. Like, money. It's really nice.
