Again, I don't share some of Broderick's views on these points, but academic freedom - and freedom of speech generally - isn't real freedom if it is only extended to views we share. Both principles are the freedom to disagree and to hold unpopular views.
So it doesn't matter what I think, what matters is that @AnatSultanDadon and @RepKManning tried to use their power and position to silence legitimate academic activity and speech by a grad. instructor well-qualified to have and express her own views.
And they can fuck right off.
Way back when I was in high school, some parents went to Jesse Helms to protest against an English department teaching assistant teaching freshman Andrew Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress." UNC removed the student from teaching duties but gave him research duties.
Helms wasn't a senator then, but a right wing TV commentator. UNC didn't support their student as fully then, it seems, as they're doing now.
