Today I learned that the Israeli Consul General to the Southeastern US has a pressure campaign to try to get a *grad student* at @UNChistory kicked off of the course they are teaching.
I try to avoid profanity, so understand what I mean when I say...kindly fuck the fuck off.

And I can't say I share all of those strong views. But they are hardly some sort of insane position utterly outside of the realm of debate.

...grad student instructor, try to use the precarity of her funding and position to silence her is a gross assault on the principles of academic freedom. I am glad UNC held strong & refused to be used in such a shameful way. I only wish they'd used more profanity doing it.
But hey, @IsraelMFA - you might want to check up on your diplomats, because one of them is making an ass of herself. And for @RepKManning, who apparently decided to join the pressure campaign against Broderick, what the hell were you thinking?
Again, I don't share some of Broderick's views on these points, but academic freedom - and freedom of speech generally - isn't real freedom if it is only extended to views we share. Both principles are the freedom to disagree and to hold unpopular views.
So it doesn't matter what I think, what matters is that @AnatSultanDadon and @RepKManning tried to use their power and position to silence legitimate academic activity and speech by a grad. instructor well-qualified to have and express her own views.
And they can fuck right off.

Oh yeah BDS supporters are definitely upset about the Israeli Government's speech rather than policies.
they are concerned bc she is using language from an antisemitic movement to teach what is presented as a neutral guide to the history of a conflict if she were truly an unbiased anti-imperialist, she would of course see the complexities involved in defining whose homeland it is
