I have a whole different appreciation for the frustration of job application now being on the other side of it. We actually had to talk admin out of demanding a research statement for a 1 semester non-renewable VAP.

I'm really happy after years of being precarious to actually be involved in the work. It's taking a while to come to appreciate how the work works, but hopefully in the future I'll be in a position to change it to make it easier for candidates here.
