You know, I don't think I really appreciated the irony of Polybius, companion of Scipio, "What are laws or the Senate? I won an election!" Aemilianus, declaring that democratic politics in Carthage were a weakness. Or perhaps this is a veiled criticism of his buddy Scipio?

Polybius strikes me as someone who was not shy to criticize his contemporaries, or even his past heroes (Aratus, Philpoemon etc). I think he probably would be more open about it… though biting the hand that feeds you requires more subtlety

I think a comparison of the government of Carthage and Rome would be interesting. Especially with their more mirrored 'Executives' ie. Consuls vs Suffettes.

I could give this a go, but I warn you - we know pathetically little about the government of Carthage. Still, perhaps 'comparative mixed constitutions' would be a good topic for a blog.
