It seems to me that some decisions are - and have to be - about money and it is better to admit it and say, "we did this unfortunate thing because to do otherwise would be financially ruinous for our organization" than to claim some higher principle.

Nah not moving the meeting for partisan reasons is just a different “higher principle”. Sure, I know some disagree with this, but with all due respect, a lot of mainstream academics struggle with the idea that there might be individuals with different first principles than theirs
