Some interesting archery demonstrates from Tod's Workshop (https://youtu.be/Avz1O27Dz50 ). I don't know what the draw weight on these bows are, but I'm struck towards the end that at anything but close range, it seems like you'd absolutely have time to raise a shield in response...
...I wonder if that explains the lack of evidence for lots of coordinated volley fire. There's no advantage to it for bows because you aren't managing reload times, and it might actually be harder to defend against a continuous hail rather than big vollies.

Even at 30 yards the response time doesn't look much different to the time a boxer has to respond to a punch. And they manage to dodge quite a few punches.
Having dabbled in boxing a few times, dodging punches isn’t very easy. Though I guess you can roughly equate knights to professional or high level amateur boxers in terms of athleticism and training.
They have also done arrow penetration tests vs armour (TLDR: even a longbow won't go through a good quality breastplate). I would be curious to see a comparison of musket/arquebus penetration of armour at different ranges.

If memory serves, the crossbow he's testing with is calibrated to be equivalent to an English longbow in projectile velocity, so probably approaching 100lbs effectively.
Unfortunately his tests also show that at that range the arrows go through shields, at least the one he had.
'Go through' but there's an energy issue here. he showed they might go through with enough force to penetrate the army wielding the shield. But that's a potentially non-lethal wound (and many shields are bossed).
