Just about the only thing it doesn't do is feed you actively wrong information (though you can do this, for instance, by detaching a fast ship to intentionally get spotted going one way and break contact - the AI will rush after the ghost you just created, while you slip past).

The limitations of the campaign also make you think in terms of task forces with specific purposes and fuel economy, rather than just bashing around in one big blob as in most 'strategy' games.

Anyway, it's on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1434950/HighFleet/ …) and not too pricey. Don't let the clunky-looking UI put you off it; it's perfectly functional (and actually part of the charm - all of those buttons and nobs actually do things).

Well, I hit play and he was immediately discussing how the Lightning is an amazing ship, so +1 endorsed. I eventually designed a custom lightning for myself, but honestly, Lightning and Skylark are the two vanilla ships that I think are pretty close to perfect for their roles.

I made the mistake of taking increased maneuverability on a lightning once. Thank the devs you still get "some" info when you black out because that crew was experiencing some Gs

Yeah, I used the Lightning a fair bit but in some ways its maneuver was overkill and it is *so* fragile. I ended up custom building a mid-weight fighter as my work-horse front-liner:pic.twitter.com/vaaPEthzpf

Durable enough to take big hits (at least before the AP changes come through, if they do), but fast enough to dodge almost anything. Flare launcher top and bottom so missiles aren't such a worry. And the guns can rumble with anything short of a Nomad or Varyag.

Range is terrible, but pair with a Skylark. Downside is you have fairly short in-combat air-time. I deployed these in pairs to mitigate that.
