I opened this series by positing three generations of Paradox games with different design philosophies and I think this is the part where Vicky2's position as a 'Gen2' game comes out most clearly. The Gen2 games often were very Eurocentric.

And that leads to a lot of problems - there are quite a few 'oofs' this week. The silver lining here is the degree to which subsequent
@PDX_Dev_Studio games have tried to move towards a more truly global historical framework.Näytä tämä ketju -
While also not without its flaws, you can see this shift very clearly comparing the design philosophies of Eu4 and Vicky2 (or Eu3, the Gen2 EU game). The same can be said for design emphasis shifts in the HoI games.

That's part of what actually makes me excited to see what
@PDX_Dev_Studio does with Victoria III. Because clearly I think a lot of Vicky2 actually works (I mean, when it works because nothing in Vicky2 works quite right all of the time)...Näytä tämä ketju -
...because I think with a more effectively global framework, a Victoria game has a decent chance to be both a fun (and/or tortuously complex, but that's the same thing, right?) game but also a useful exercise to think about historical causation and the impacts on regular folks.

I'm very excited to see how Qing is handled

I’d be very happy if pdx managed to implement a decently accurate current and capital account simulation and a westernized China wouldn’t straight up crash the global economy.

Really great job with this series. Love my new Friday tradition of reading this over a (sometimes very long!) coffee break
