In its defense, LotR is also relatively hopeful about the post-Sauron future. In the appendix, Aragorn actually does bring about a revival of Gondor. The elves leave and magic mostly passes away, but I think we're to understand, you know, living conditions improved.
Dark Souls is an interesting kind of example too. The problem there is the 'First Sin' - the decision by one of the gods to try to stop the natural cycle while the gods were on top and the humans on the bottom.
