When it comes to 'killing' Homer, I find their lack of faith disturbing. If the various canon authors really are exceptional, really did produce something of tremendous impact and singular worth...why would you be worried that people would stop reading them?
Stuffy elites have been trying to talk people out of reading cool, subversive stuff forever and it basically never works so why would you assume that we could talk people out of finding the Iliad to be profound and worthwhile?
