Also (this one doesn't look like it has one) but it's typically two pieces held together. Two 9foot poles are easier to manage in your supplies than an 18 footer

The evidence for the 2-piece sarissa is extremely limited. It depends on accepting Andronicos and Markle on the function of the iron sleeve found at Aigai; P. Connolly has shown they were wrong on the purpose of literally every other sarissa and xyston component at the site.

No ancient artwork shows the sleeve, no ancient source describes it and only one, to my knowledge, has ever been recovered.

I realize that isn't necessarily obvious if you're just reading about it. Public facing lit. tends to either accept the 2-part sarissa uncritically or ignore it. But its an area of real uncertainty and I think at this point Connolly's no-sleeve reconstruction is the best.
