People complain so much about dishes and laundry, they take 5 minutes and you can watch tv and do drugs while you do them. I would've been an amazing 50's housewife.

The indefatigable killjoy in me wants to note that dishwashers didn't really become widely affordable until the 1960s and 70s. Washing machines in the 50s and 60s in the US and the 70s in the UK, electric clothes driers in the 60s, at least for people who weren't already rich.
All of these tasks become a lot more hateable if you have to do them by hand!

Sure but I don't think people complaining about doing laundry in 2021 have ever done it by hand, lol. I washed dishes by hand for the first 25 years of my life, I agree it is more annoying than just loading the washer though not unacceptably so.

No, that's fair, I just meant re: the 50's housewife comment at the top of the thread. It's mostly just me overreacting to my pet peeve of people underrating the labor-intensity and importance of 'domestic' tasks in non-elite households prior to modern home appliances.
