Do tutition fees affect your answer? Like, if the potential student were going to study in a country with low or no tuition fees for university, would you instead encourage them to study whatever they want?
I can't speak for other fields, but in the humanities at least, if your tuition isn't fully covered plus a stipend that covers basic living expenses, don't go, don't bother. Also, if it's not a top-10, top-20 program in your field, don't go, don't bother.
I'm going to apply for a MA in History this fall, because of naivety I guess. Still, thank you for the blunt honesty (I mean it).
