I’m preparing to apply to a PhD program. I’m going to go through the application process, but I am a bit concerned about the number of people with PhDs who seem to regret their career choice.
Hopefully working in PME (private military education), as a historian for any of the armed forces or in their museums. Not opposed to teaching in a public or private school, but everyone has told me that is basically a pipe dream.
Well, the good news is that PME jobs actually exist, though they are still quite competitive. Different programs in mil-hist have different reputations; you'll want to snag the advice of a senior scholar on where is worth your time.
