I believe in and respect the vision of the framers. Especially Article V of the Constitution, where they write at some detail about how their vision is open to subsequent amendment "valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution."

But using the 'vision of the framers' as a cudgel is a bit rich given that the actually articulated vision of the framers saves an entire article for how that vision could be amended.

I think the constitution was a compromise and they recognized how imperfect it was even then. Just look at the bill of rights which didn’t come out of Philadelphia but represented the views of many who didn’t like the constitution at the time.

Oh sure, but just speaking from experience with ancient constitutions, even when the result of your ugly political process is a horrible kludge, it seems the temptation to then say, 'And should anyone alter so much as a letter of these words, let him be accursed forever.'

I think the last time we changed our constitution was in 2018, in some minor ways, and new changes are being prepared. It’s a working document that should be kept updated, it’s not some holy writ. There’s no attachment here to the original version or to whoever may have written

The damn thing way back in 1798. Their opinions are completely irrelevant to todays society.
