500-800 is my preferred range. I don't mind long abstracts because it helps me sell the thing better and forces me to think more about the eventual composition of the paper/presentation ahead of time.
Yeah, 750-800 is a fine maximum length, though I find that even then I end up with a 600 word abstract.

Personally, I think 300 words is probably the longest an abstract should ever be. Anything more than that and it no longer functions as a teaser of your paper. A good abstract length is 150, maybe 200 words

Maybe I'm just not good at being concise. I'm also still mad at those folks who had the nerve to criticize me for lacking nuance in an abstract that long.
