My Homer prof thought B. 24 was an add-on, that Odysseus and Penelope reunited was the original ending.
I'm curious if any of these include book 24. I can't think of one that does (but I don't know them all); I increasingly think b. 24 is important for understanding Odysseus' character. That's the general view and as a matter of the composition of the poem, probably correct. But the original audience would have known 'what comes next' which in turn provides context that a modern reader lacks for how to understand Odysseus' return.

Odyssey book 24 is very unhelpful advice as to how to end cycles of feuds: "have a goddess make the aggreived party forget about the insult"

Interesting question. I haven't seen them all. There's at least one! The 1981 anime series Ulysses 31 has a visit to Hades in its last episode. Its plot is closer to Odyssey book 11, but its placement is clearly a nod to book 24.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ulysses_31_episodes …
