Every day I get to wake up and see that a few more people liked the fanfiction stories I've created. Every couple of weeks I'll get a comment from someone telling me how much it meant to them. It's a lot easier to get out of bed in the morning because of that than for academia.
I wish it was more normalized - and easier - in academia to tell people you liked their scholarship.
