I am honestly concerned that the entire structure of academic fields are going to begin to collapse because they rely on large amounts of unpaid 'service' to the field to function and without jobs to offer people, who will do that work?

The 'after' picture of academia, especially the humanities, is honestly going to look like something out of the Black Death - the R1 nobles suddenly having to plow their own fields after all of their contingent peasants and graduate students have died of the job-market-plague.
