I like a lot of the new Disney stuff, but it can't last forever, and it seems like a lot of film is running into the mono-crop danger where if the crop fails, the farm fails.

Yeah I think criticisms of the movies *themselves* can be separated from both criticisms of the mode of their production and criticisms of Disney's general attitude towards art, which we kind of *have* to care about as their IP farming reaches planetary proportions

a depressing constraint is the extent to which Disney depends on locking up the IP rights for tie-in merchandise etc, so even an otherwise successful franchise can still fizzle if the imagery is too "generic" to be fully copyrightable (e.g. Indiana Jones style "adventurer" chic)
