Contingent faculty, postdocs, graduate students on #ClassicsTwitter, how many of you actually expect to stay in academia long term? Had a frustrating exchange with a mentor who is shocked and saddened to hear that I don't expect to stay when my current job runs out.
I'm unusual in that my public scholarship generates enough for me to eat, so I can afford to stay in more or less out of my own vanity. I honestly don't think I'd advise sticking in for others. Certainly no one should be surprised people are looking for greener pastures.
