I am like 99% certain I've cited him a couple times in the paper on Armor types and terminology I'm working on.

LITERALLY RIGHT WHERE I LEFT OFF A MONTH AGO: "The descriptor also appears elsewhere: in Statius' Thebaid, 11.542-543, he states that the "thorax" which is constructed with "plumis" gives ill protection to the groin."

Can’t believe you’ve disrupted the Statius Quo.
-
Well, a Statius Quote is pretty close, I guess...

I have no idea who Statius is or what the Thebiad is (I assume it's about Thebes?), but this tweet still cracks me up.
-
Yep. It's about the mythological war between Etiocles and Polynices for the kingdom of Thebes. Incidentally anyone who has read The Purgatorio will have encountered Statius who gets a srar part in the poem.

I'm not super familiar with Roman poets or poetry, but one thing that strikes me is how autobiographical they are. A poet says "I came from X" in a poem and we take that to be autobigraphical in a way that we wouldn't for say, Randall Jerrel's Ball Turret Gunner.
-
Possibly because The Ball Turret Gunner is dead, and ghosts don't usually write poetry.
