Ancient crops: Grain(s); olives; grapes. The latter two not harmed by marching across. Grain obviously is. Hanson talked a lot about the latter two, but not the former. HOWEVER, it IS difficult to burn green wheat, and spreading out an army to stomp it down takes time.

didn't you just answer your own question? ALso, just FYI, it's harder to time the deliberate destruction of maize corn. There's a whole discussion about it in the orders to Sullivan's 1779 attack on Iroq. ALL looks at this issue should include stored food/seed susceptibility
