You can usually rename open files. E.g. macOS Preview, right clicking on the file name at the top of the window IIRC
I'm a PC/Windows-OS sort of person. Not sure if that works on Windows.

Windows doesn't like it when you mess with files that are currently held open by programs. Superi^W Other OSes don't care, for technical reasons too boring to be contained within 280 characters.
