No excuse for the insularity, of course, which is still a significant hindrance and I think is more severe in the broader foreign affairs space than in some other fields.

To a certain extent, but it also has effects domestically. Particularly, the US field doesn't consider foreign cases nearly enough; hence not checking if theories generalize across countries; hence those theories not generalizing well to different (esp. future) periods in the US

In my experience, UK political science literature is much more in the European tradition; I haven't seen enough Canadian stuff to get a strong impression.
