speaking as a former academic--modern academia is built on the dissonance between the grand dream of The Eternal Conversation and the adjunct treadmill the (real) glory of that dream keeps one toiling away at the underpaid and precarious labor that makes the university go round
I suppose as a matter of raw economics, this is the world I live in. I'm a professional blogger/writer who happens to do some paid university teaching 'in his spare time' & goes on the job market every year 'for the heck of it.' There’s anMtG content creator (I believe with the most Youtube subscribers), who was a professor who did videos on the side. One semester all of his classes were canceled. He’s been doing content creation full time since. Making as much money as he did teaching.
