"Students should learn something about the world's largest religion in school" always struck me as a fairly obvious statement but as
@BeijingPalmer notes, it gets caught up in fights from both sides.
But it should be stressed - this really isn't a case of 'lets do 'our' religion because it is 'ours'.' Rather it is the most printed book in human history and the core text to the world's largest religion. Of course students should be taught some basic understanding of it.

The point of teaching is to open them up to things they *might not know they're interested in.* And also, sometimes if you want to study something you actually have to do the bits that aren't interesting to everyone!
