Is there tension? All of the philosophers I know have been perfectly pleasant, though I suppose I don't do the history of philosophy, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Ok, I admit that I wasn't too much serious, but personally, as an history student, I find less difficult to discuss with a political scientist than with a philosopher. In my case, it's because their approach generalises even more than the political science's one

But probably the fact that I usually interact with philosophy students and not with professors has something to do with it too
