I'm not entirely sure why we can't criticise an article (which I thought was disappointing) or an author (with whose views I disagree profoundly) without a 'one strike and you are out' attitude to a journal and suggestions of bad faith, that seem to proliferate on here.
...which opened its doors with a letter that begins "Dear colleagues" ought to be open to fair criticism. The above twitter thread is my fair, if somewhat enthusiastic, criticism. It was extremely foolish to print such a subpar essay by so troubling a person.

And I should clarify, the point with A Man for All Seasons was not that Antigone had perjured itself, to be clear, but that they had sold something of infinite importance for something of little importance.

I mean, we need not play pretend in how this works. I try to do my bit in classics/ancient history outreach, but - as an adjunct on the job market - I can now hardly do so through Antigone because I cannot know how that will be viewed by a future job committee.
