Ah, but cf. W. Murray, The Age of Titans (2012) and C. Steinby, The Roman Republican Navy (2007) - the Romans are doing more ramming and maneuver than you think. (Also, that second book is difficult to find. Try to get your library to interlibrary-loan you a copy).
