Ok, #twitterstorians, question! What would you recommend, textbook-wise, for an enthusiast looking to do some history (but not grad school) to provide some foundation in historical theory and methods?

I picked up my theory foundation in grad seminar settings, so I don't have a Big Book of Historical Theory to point to when asked. Given how much interest there is among non-academics in doing good history, I feel like a book for this must exist or else be very much desideratum?

So your audience is "intellectual" (read likes to play with ideas) but non-academic? And looking for pure theory/methodology? Or "in-context" theory/methodology? And if a specific context, any specific "domain" of history? h/t:

This particular questioner is someone who has been writing for an enthusiast audience on historical topics for some time, but wants to sharpen their skills with historical methods and theory where the autodidact may lack.
