Panel Samuel Huntington at #SMH2021 turning into a polite bash session on political science as a discipline and I am so here for this.
But to be clear, there's a lot of good work in the poli-sci space, but it is in part the historian's job to call balls and fouls. And we mostly call fouls, because we are grumpy by nature!

Well, you should be grumpy. I have seen historians present their work---reading their papers word by word. I'd be grump too ;)
Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa

Well yeah, but political scientists have been calling balls and fouls on Huntington's use of data, in many of his works, for decades, so I'm not sure how this is a failure of the *discipline*.

So to be clear, the panel was discussing Soldier and the State (1957) not Clash (1996); my sense is that the former's reputation remains better than the latter though historical criticism of SatS is not new, e.g. E.M. Coffman in JMH 55.1 (1991)
