Seeing more 'it's ok to just survive, you don't need to thrive in a pandemic' academic productivity messaging. And yes, this is a good message. But also, please, tenure-track folks - understand that this mentality was never an option for contingents on the job market.

And this isn't to rage at the individual academics saying these things. It's a system, after all, and a lot of departments would *like* to be hiring more but can't be and I understand that. And it *is* reasonable to give people a break during such a disruptive pandemic.

But academic work is only ever even remotely reasonable for the safely tenure-track or tenured (and sometimes not even then), which gives 'take care of yourself' bromides a real 'let them eat cake' energy. I will happily eat tenure-track cake as soon as someone lets me have it.

I don't know. It's not like doing all that makes a job more likely. Too much randomness in it all to get worked up over productivity perceptions.
