That's the tricky thing, though, isn't it? No one class can teach everything and sometimes students have the worst holes in their knowledge. Like being unaware that poll tests have a history in this country and it's not a good one!
Every year around this time I find myself reflecting on how I set up the end of my ancient history survey to gesture at the medieval world, especially ERE & Islamic world. But with a lot of students, there's no 'hook' to connect to, because the eastern med. is a blank to them.
