As a scholar of the ancient world, I have to protest that ancient armies rarely had the capacity to destroy cities as completely as in WW2, including Berlin. Ancient warfare was still monstrous, ofc, just limited by the relatively lower destructiveness of ancient weapons.

Hi ww2 nerd here, the reson why the amount of destruction was so large in ww2 was due to advancements in bombers, explosive technology, artillery technology and more urban warfare, before all of these technologies advanced so far destroying cities was only achived with mass fires
